Time Tunnel

The Time Tunnel is a 50 feet long public art sculpture designed by Franziska Amacher, Green Architect and Environmental Artist. The Time Tunnel will be displayed throughout Boston GreenFest. Ms. Amacher of Amacher & Associates Architects was inspired by Phyllis Travers Erickson and Karen L. Weber who worked together on Boston GreenFest 2008

The Time Tunnel made its first appearance last September when the Foundation for a Green Future, Inc. presented Boston GreenFest for the first time on Boston City Hall Plaza. Ms. Amacher designed this sculpture to help people visualize and experience how our world has changed over time. The first segment reveals a world that is beautiful and bountiful. The second shows a world in which we have squandered our resources and degraded our environment to the detriment of so many living beings. The third is a segment of hope in which we show ways that we can once again have a beautiful sustainable world by working together in a respectful way towards our fellow beings and planet.

Upon entering the Time Tunnel there are numerous butterflies, then just a few in the center part, and more as one arrives in the area for renewal. Last year's biocensus revealed that we have lost as many as 1/3 of the world's butterfly population. This is only one of the losses in biodiversity around our planet. We believe that we have the power to bring them back as we change our ways and transform our world to one that is healthy and sustainable. Come take a walk through the Time Tunnel. This is an interactive exhibit and we are encouraging students and adults to add elements to the tunnel. We expect the Time Tunnel to go through many transformations over time. So come now and compare!
